G-SPEAK

At pesent, a Los Angeles-based company is designing a system that may possibly render the computer mouse obsolete. The chief scientist at Oblong Industries responsible for creating the technology, John Underkoffler, says the new technology called 'G-Speak' may entirely change the way we interact with pc's and computers.

Rather than having to use one hand to control the mouse, a user can communicate with a PC by slipping on special gloves that intuitively communicates with the computer using both hands. G-Speak allows a user to select objects on screen by pointing. The object appears to come closer and appears larger when the user brings his hands closer to his body. Pushing the hands to one side moves the object to a different screen. This makes it possible to interact with things as if they are real. The technology apparently works exactly like the technology used in the movie 'Minority Report'.

G-Speak will run on existing personal computers, and they plan to sell the technology for not much more than what a high-quality mouse costs - about 20-40 pounds. Because the system is so intuitive, Oblong believes the technology will almost completely replace the computer mouse in coming years. The technology will reportedly be available in the market in 2011.
